Shopping at TPSS keeps your money in the local economy and helps sustain fair-paying jobs for 45 staff. Every purchase supports local producers and gives you access to fresh, delicious foods and sustainable products that are better for people and the planet.
Partnerships

TPSS hosts weekly food distributions organized by Small Things Matter
TPSS contributes thousands of dollars each year to local causes and partners with local organizations to address food insecurity, extending the impact of your shopping well beyond the store. We partner with organizations working to increase food access, promote sustainable agricultural practices, cultivate new cooperative businesses, and create meaningful change and responsible growth in the Takoma Park-Silver Spring area. We also engage in advocacy on grocery industry and food security issues relevant to our community.
Throughout the year, shoppers have the option to round up their purchases at the register to support community organizations.
Read our monthly newsletter (or archives) for updates on TPSS’s community engagement work.
Affordability
TPSS is proud to partner with Crossroads Community Food Network to offer matching funds for SNAP recipients on produce purchases. Through Crossroads’ Fresh Checks program, Co-op shoppers who receive SNAP benefits will receive 50% off all fresh fruits and vegetables. When you check out and pay with SNAP, the cashier will automatically apply the 50% discount to your purchase. The program is funded by a USDA grant called GusNIP and by donations to the TPSS Feed a Neighbor Fund.
Events
TPSS organizes community events throughout the year, the largest of which is our Earth Day festival in early April. We partner with Rhizome on an annual film festival and occasionally offer cooking classes, foraging walks, and more. Check our events calendar to learn about upcoming events!
