Join the TPSS Board in Learning About Local Sourcing!
A question we often hear from members is whether the Co-op is doing enough to offer local products in the store. These questions matter. Supporting local and regional vendors is a core value that sets our Co-op apart from other grocery stores, offering important economic, environmental, and community benefits by keeping production and purchasing close to home. But what does “local” look like in practice? How are we living this value, and what challenges and barriers can keep local goods from making it onto our Co-op shelves?
We invite you to join the TPSS Board for a Local Sourcing Conversation to explore these questions and learn how TPSS approaches local procurement. Our speakers will include:
- Rick Hood, from Summer Creek Farm, who supplies the Co-op with organic produce and soil,
- Mandilyn Beck, local procurement specialist, who will share insights on how food distribution systems work
- Mike Houston, TPSS Co-op GM, on how and why we prioritize purchasing local products
This hybrid event will take place during our December Board meeting at 7:00 PM. Join us in person at Historic Takoma or online via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/pIAnIbxaSlSD3z3-yCYfwA
