July 29th | July 30th | August 4th : Co-op Film Festival Year 2 @ Rhizome DC

BUY TICKETS HERE!

We are very excited to announce the second (!!!) Co-op Film Festival, following the massive success of last year’s festival. We’re returning to our favorite DIY hub and arts space, Rhizome DC, for three screenings on three separate nights. Rhizome recently purchased a new building and is priming it to become the *future* home of Rhizome; all ticket sales with go to Rhizome to assist them in this transformational process! We’ll feed you (spicy fresh fruit salad, roasted dandelion green pesto…) and we promise you’ll make new friends and connections — this was the event of last summer, at least according to us. Please come hang out!

Food For Change is an 82-minute documentary film focusing on food co-ops as a force for dynamic social and economic change in American culture. This is the first film to examine the important historical role played by food co-ops, their pioneering quest for organic foods, and their current efforts to create regional food systems. Additionally, the film shows how cooperatives today strengthen local economies and build food security. The goal is to educate a wide audience about the principles of cooperation with a focus on healthy food and a healthy economy. We couldn’t screen this last year because we didn’t have a license; this year, WE DO!!! (Screening July 29th @ 7 PM)

Civilizing the Economy is a 1990’s look into the Co-ops of Bologna Italy. Punk Football is documentary about FC United of Manchester, a soccer team run by the people, for the people, for the enjoyment of the people. Each screening is 30 minutes. The goal of this screening is to juxtapose a co-op formed for sport purposes against classical European cooperatives. Come check out this double-bill with us, and we’ll talk about co-op differences with regard to business type. (Screening July 30th @ 7 PM)

A Silent Transformation sets out to explore the innovative self-help efforts of different communities across the Province of Ontario, Canada. By addressing their needs collectively they are helping to regain the radical vision of co-operation. In these communities are the seeds of economic democracy, global solidarity, and a new popular movement to transform society! Will it grow and flourish? Come find out! (Screening August 4th @ 7 PM)

Tickets are $5 for each screening, but all three tickets can be purchased for $10.
