Come read, discuss and break bread with members of your community.
Register for the Co-op Book Club here. This Book Club is brought to you in partnership with our local mom n’ pop bookshop, People’s Book.
Our next meeting (Sunday July 13th, 2025 | 5 – 6:30 PM) will be bringing everyone together. Everyone from the first meeting that was cancelled for Mother’s Day, all that canceled for a thunderstorm previous, everyone that didn’t have their book, everyone that preferred a Sunday — all is under control, folks. And we’re going to have an amazing time. We’ve already had 20 people sign up. (!!!) Here’s what you all need to know:
The Co-op has purchased 7 copies of At the Table from People’s Book so we can give them freely to members of the Book Club. Do you not have a copy of the book yet, and you’d like one and like to get some reading done before the next meeting? Reply to this and I can get you a book by next Wednesday. The E-book version is available for purchase directly from the publisher at the hyperlink provided. You can, if you please, place an order for this book at People’s for 15% off (tell them you signed up for the Co-op Book Club) and you should receive it within 3 – 4 days. Both the Takoma Park Maryland library and the Takoma DC library do not have this book in reserve.
Don’t want a copy of the book, but would like a PDF of the first two chapters? Email me, and I can either send you a PDF or print you out a copy and have it stapled for you.
Our supplemental materials for our next meeting are Abolish Restaurants: A Worker’s Critique of the Food Service Industry by Anonymous and Every Cook Can Abolish Governance: Part 3 by Lena Kafka. Both articles are available at the hyperlinks provided, through The Anarchist Library. I printed out 6 copies of each and already have them stapled, please email me if you’d like to pick a copy up of either at the store. Neither reading is required, but both readings are really interesting when read alongside Miller’s writing.
I will feed you. This event will not be catered, but I will bring all kinds of snacks and beverages and dips and fruits and veggies from the Co-op. You can take everything home we don’t eat.
We’re meeting at People’s Book, 7041-A Westmoreland Ave | Takoma Park, MD 20912, on Sunday July 13th from 5 – 6:30/7 PM. People’s has limited parking out front, but much more parking in the lot up the hill directly behind the House of Musical Traditions, adjacent to the bookshop.
We will be discussing the book’s intro and the first two chapters. Easy peasy. Don’t worry about having missed any previous meetings. Tell your friends to sign up at the Google Form if you know other people who have expressed interest.
If you have any other questions about Book Club before our next meeting date, please email me and let me know. I’ll send a reminder email for the next meeting a week before, and the day before.
Looking forward to reading and thinking with all of you.
