On December 17, Roxanne Yamashita from Small Things Matter talked about the work her organization does in combating food insecurity in these times of great crisis.
Roxanne shared with us about several of STM’s programs, including the Books for Bedtime Program. As a part of this program, teens read to children at food distributions, PTA meetings, and community literacy events. During the pandemic, these readings are online. STM also distributes book bundles to families in need.
Another program is Kokua Foods, which distributes produce, dairy products, bread, sandwiches, casseroles, baked, and bulk goods at a variety of locations throughout our neighborhood. There are two distributions at the Co-op: the 1st and 3rd Friday produce box distribution, featuring produce from Imperfect Foods, and Tuesdays as part of the Teen Pantry Distribution Program.
