On February 1, 2021, we became the first Maryland sponsor of the Fair Food Program. We are partnering with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) to support this award-winning program, a worker-driven human rights initiative ensuring basic protections for tens of thousands of farmworkers along the East Coast.
Take a look at a video of the amazing work the program has accomplished thus far.
You have also probably been seen the news reports this summer about extreme heat and farmworker injuries and deaths. The industry has been waiting for a while now for OSHA to issue some protective standards at the national level, but so far that hasn’t happened. So, just like they did for COVID-19, the FFP got together with the growers in the program to hammer out a mandatory heat stress prevention and response policy. This policy guarantees real enforcement because the standards have been folded into the FFP code of conduct.
