(06/22/25): The Co-op Book Club at People’s Book (Meeting 1)

Come read, discuss and break bread with members of your community.

After paying attention to feedback from our member-owners at our last two New Member Orientations and responses to our Monthly Newsletter, we’ve understood that many in our constituency are interested in forming deeper community connections. Many of you are readers, and love to have interesting discussions with neighbors, friends and strangers. To facilitate this, and to bring more attention to one of our favorite community institutions, we’ve decided to start The Co-op Book Club. Our goal is to read an interesting book every month, and to meet bi-monthly to discuss what we’re thinking. People’s Book has kindly given us a discount: anyone who registers for the Book Club will get 15% purchase off of our current read, and this month it is At the Table: the Chef’s Guide to Advocacy by local author Katherine Miller! Miller draws upon her experience working with the James Beard foundation to shape an ethical worldview for chefs and foodies alike.

Read an article on Civil Eats about this book, and Miller’s work, here.

Our June Meeting will take place on Sunday June 22nd, 2025 from 5 – 6 PM at People’s Book7014-A Westmoreland Ave | Takoma Park, MD 20912. Parking is available in front of People’s Book but is limited to a few spaces; there is also parking in the lot behind the House of Musical Traditions.

To register for the Co-op Book Club, click this link. A confirmation email will be sent to you after you fill out the registration form; you can show this confirmation email at People’s Book to receive 15% off of current read. Please email cthompson@tpss.coop if purchasing the book is not currently within your means.

This is a make-up meeting for the past Mother’s Day meeting — this will technically be our first meeting. Please don’t feel like you’ve missed out on anything if this is your first time registering.
