Why is the TPSS Co-op important to you?

Its a vibrant source of wholesome food; and offers an alternative to the various grocery chains. That it is a membership organization, that anyone can join. That the combination of democratic policy setting and economic participation mean that members can contribute to governance and experience the consequences of governance decisions. Finally, the Co-op strives to be a contributing member of the community.

What is your favorite co-operative principle and why?

I think they are all important. The first three seem to be foundational -- they establish the basis of who the Coop is. The remaining contribute to the sustainability of the Co-op over time.

Why are diversity and equity important to you, and how do these principles show up in your life?

For me, diversity is a source of strength--in the environment, in the community and in an organization like the Co-op. For an organization like the Co-op, different perspectives can lead to better decision making and a richer cooperative culture. Diversity can only rise to it potential, though, if there is equity of treatment, equity of opportunity to participate, and a respect for all voices and perspectives.
