2024 Board Candidate: James Gibson

Why are you interested in serving on the Board?

I have been serving as an interim board member for the past several months. Over that time I have truly come to appreciate the work that the board does for the co-op and the community. I would like to continue serving in the capacity of a board member and continue working to help build the future of the co-op.

Tell us about yourself, including any volunteer or professional experiences that might be relevant to board service.

I am currently serving as the president of the Rock Creek Village Condominium Association and have been a board member for 4 years. I also spent a decade in the retail sector with more than 7 years at a managements levels.

Why is the TPSS Co-op important to you?

I enjoy the local and organic produce available for purchase. My wife is vegan and the co-op provides many options that traditional grocery stores do not carry. I also like the community that the co-op represents.

What is your favorite co-operative principle and why?

The fact that local and organic foods are emphasized. I think food productions needs to be less industrial and more local. It is better for the environment and makes our communities less dependent on fossil fuels transporting food long distances. Having a place to shop that values these types of foods is important to me.

Why are diversity and equity important to you, and how do these principles show up in your life?

Diversity and equity are important to me because they reflect the value of inclusivity, fairness, and understanding, which are key to human connection, growth, and progress. These principles help ensure that people from all walks of life have a chance to succeed and contribute to society. By embracing diverse perspectives, we can better solve problems, foster innovation, and create environments where everyone feels respected and valued.
