2025 Board Candidate: Matt Littlejohn

Tell us about yourself, including any volunteer or professional experiences that might be relevant to board service. In particular, if you have any experience with oversight of an organization’s budget or financial performance, please include that information here.

I have an MBA and was formerly a Chief Marketing Officer and Chief Operating Officer for a media company where I oversaw budgets. In addition, I was a consultant to Honest Tea at its founding and helped with its positioning (including the initial product design). Currently, I am a SVP at Oceana and am a 20+year member its executive committee and have overseen two departments (and budgets) in that time.

Why are you interested in serving on the Board?

I like business (and solving new related issues or problems) and am a long time - 20 year plus - member of the co-op. I am also interested in non traditional forms of business (and the food business from my time supporting Honest Tea) and how to make them successful. In addition, I am about to retire from Oceana and would like to be able to serve the community.

What is your favorite co-operative principle and why?

"Members Economic Particpation." As I noted above, I am interested in non-traditional forms of business. I think it is important to have multiple economic models succeed. We should be more than just consumers (we should also be owners).

What does the expression “diversity and equity “ mean to you and why is it important in the context of an organization like the coop? How are the ideas of equity and diversity reflected in your everyday life?

Takoma Park is a diverse community, economically and demographically, and the co-op should try to serve all parts of the community. My wife is the deputy director of the Crossrooads Community Food Network and I am very familiar with and supportive of the co-op's partnership with Crossroads and am glad that the Co-op is actively engaging that part of the Takoma community.
