There are currently two job openings:
POSITION: TPSS Board Administrator
Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-op mission is to promote healthful living by offering wholesome food, high quality products, and community resources in a clean, friendly cooperative grocery stores that you can own.
Each staff member is asked to help create an environment which encourages respect, honesty and trust, amongst all co-workers and also offers the highest degree of service to each customer; each staff member is asked to help maintain the store image as an ethical and positive place to work and to shop. In addition, TPSS Co-op is committed to being an educational resource to the community on ecological, environmental and food related issues.
Purpose of Postion: This position is designed to provide support services for the TPSS board of representatives. The board administrator provides for smooth coordination and movement of information between the members of the board, GM and eventually to members. About half of the work associated with this position is conducted off-site. 10 hours/month is the average, though it may vary considerably from month to month depending on board activity.
Status: Reports to Board Secretary
Pay level: $15-18/hour Part-time
Responsibilities
- Assist in meeting logistics
- Attend all board and membership meetings, recording minutes. Prepare minutes for distribution to board members and GM.
- Send action items to board members within a week of board meetings.
- Assist the Nominations Committee in all aspects of the election process as needed.
- Send approved minutes to stores for posting on ‘board board.’
- Support board president in keeping track of incomplete/tabled/forgotten action items
- Prepare new board member binders after each election.
- Be responsive to board member requests for files/reports, etc.
- Prepare and get signatures on board member Conflict of Interest Disclosure statements:
- New each election year
- New when a conflict of interest is noted/addressed
- Record Maintenance.
- Maintain Policy Register, adding amendments and corrections, keeping board members supplied with current edition. Send PR to webmaster after revisions for posting to website.
- Maintain all paper and electronic files of: GM monthly reports, monthly monitoring reports of policies, action items, others as needed.
- Update Bylaws and affected documents as required.
- Facilitate Member access to public portions of board records.
- Maintain record of board member terms of service.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong background in administration and excellent organizational skill
- Ability to work well with a diverse group of people
- Demonstrated ability to work with little direction is essential
- Computer skills required: Microsoft Word; Excel
- Owning a personal lap top computer will prove very useful and practical, but is not required
Additional Qualifications:
- Previous experience taking minutes for an executive board
- Strong background in file maintenance and archiving
- Position open until filled.

POSITION: Bulk Food Stocker (full time)

Location: TPSS Co-op, Takoma Park Store
Responsibilities:
- Assist customers with product questions, in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
- Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products.
- Help customers place special orders.
- Replenish and rotate displays, culling several times daily, and following stocking priorities. Dispose of damaged or spoiled goods promptly according to procedure.
- Pull short-date or low-quality items and follow established procedures for recording and disposing.
- Label items accurately with price tags or signs. Report price discrepancies to buyers.
- Maintain stocking lists for later shifts. Notify buyers of out-of-stocks.
- Help with receiving deliveries and rotate overstock into back stock.
- Stock produce and close it for the night as needed.
- Remove trash, clean cases and keep prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition.
- Participate in periodic inventory counts.
- Attend department and storewide meetings.
- Perform other tasks assigned by Buyer or Purchasing Manager.
Qualifications:
- Ability to lift 50 lb.
- Familiarity with or interest in bulk
- Experience serving the public
- Ability to stand for long periods
- Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment
- Ability to project friendly, outgoing personality
- Regular, predictable attendance
- Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job
