POSITION: Shift Coordinator


The mission of TPSS Co-op is to promote healthful living by offering wholesome foods, high quality produce and community resources, in a clean, friendly, co-operative grocery store… that you own!

Each staff member is asked to help create an environment which encourages respect, honesty and trusts amongst all co-workers and also offers the highest degree of service to each customer; each staff member is asked to help maintain the store image as an ethical and positive place to work and to shop. In addition, TPSS Co-op is committed to being an educational resource to the community on ecological, environmental and food related issues.


PURPOSE: To ensure prompt, friendly, courteous customer service, accurate cash handling, store security and smooth store operations during designated shifts.

RESPOSIBILITIES:

  • CUSTOMER SERVICE/CASHIERING
    • Provide excellent customer service by helping customers find product locations and addressing questions and complaints.
    • Check out customer purchase quickly and accurately, using correct prices and departments.
    • Issue credits to customers for returned items and ensure that returns are properly disposed of.
    • Help customers with placing special orders
    • Open and close out registers following established procedures.  Balance cash drawer at end of shift.
    • Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
    • Maintain store in clean, orderly condition during shift.
    • See that spills and other hazardous conditions are cleaned up promptly.


  • FRONT-END ADMINISTRATION
    • Cover register during staff breaks.
    • Provide change for cashiers as needed from the safe.
    • Ensure accuracy and security of all cash received through front-end during shift.  Periodically check with cashiers for drops of excel bills and checks during shifts and place in safe.
    • Stock check-out stands with register supplies (bags, register tape, pens, etc.) and inform Store Manager of low supplies.
    • Assist Store Manager with notifying cashiers of price changes and specials and all changes in store policies and procedures affecting cashiering.
    • Coordinate Front-End staff stocking and facing when there are no customers to check out.
    • Find staff to fill in last minute holes in schedule.
    • Deal with shoplifters, disorderly customers, and medical emergencies following established procedures.
    • Trouble shoot equipment breakdowns during shift, following established procedures.
    • Perform routine maintenance tasks as needed during shift.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Expertise in running a cash register.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with the Catapult system.
  • Experience serving the public, handling multiple demands while staying calm.
  • Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality.
  • Communications skills:  good listening, clear instructions.
  • Familiarity with natural foods.
  • Regular, predictable attendance.
  • Available to work mornings/evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to perform stocking tasks.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Ability to stand for long periods.

POSITION: Grocery Manager

PURPOSE: The Grocery Manager is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the department. This is a hands-on position; the manager is expected to be on the sales floor a majority of his/her time.

RESPOSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Grocery (Bulk, Frozen, Refrigerated, and General Grocery) Department, to include staffing, budgeting, inventory and shrink management.
  • Plan and maintain attractive, fully stocked, rotated and faced departments, with attractive, stocked end caps at all times, and ensure that accurate, uniform, up-to-date department signs and shelf tags are posted.
  • Hold regular meetings of department staff. Train and give clear instructions to employees as to their daily tasks and any special assignments and how to best perform their jobs.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service by ensuring quick response to customer questions and concerns.
  • With buyers, negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery and research new or alternative sources of supply. Develop relationships with local producers and manufacturers.
  • Stay abreast of developments in the natural products industry through reading trade publications, talking with brokers, and visiting other stores.
  • Participate in quarterly inventory counts.
  • Must work nights and weekends and serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as scheduled.
  • Must be willing to work 45+ hours a week as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Management experience.
  • Experience in retail food operations.
  • Ability to develop and implement budgets and maintain cost and margin requirements.
  • Ability to coach and train staff.
  • The skill set required to develop, plan and implement systems, policies and procedures in a retail operation.
  • Commitment to superior customer service.
  • Excellent communication skills.

POSITION: Wellness Replenishment Buyer

PURPOSE: The job of the Wellness Buyer is to ensure product variety and values that satisfy TPSS customers, to merchandise products effectively, to manage inventory levels, and to set pricing to meet departmental margin goals.

STATUS: Reports to Wellness Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure a safe, attractive, and efficient Wellness department that provides excellent service to customers.
  • Identify the product mix to achieve sales and margin goals and satisfy customer demand. Working with the Lead Buyer and Operations Manager, evaluate suppliers and investigate new sources of supply. Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, and delivery.
  • Set procedures for ordering, receiving, pricing, and stocking. Place orders or oversee ordering to ensure regular supply.
  • Determine product placement. Stock shelves or have shelves stocked thoroughly before ordering. Assess current levels of inventory and decide order amounts.
  • Working with POS coordinator, ensure signs and shelf tags are accurate and PLU’s are up-to-date and accurate in the POS system.
  • Provide prompt, friendly, courteous customer service. Answer questions on nutrition and natural products within legal guidelines, referring to other staff when appropriate.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Familiarity with vitamins, supplements, herbs, natural cosmetics and body care products.
  • Understanding of margin and pricing.
  • Knowledge of trends in natural wellness industry.
  • Strong communications skills.

POSITION: Cashier

STATUS: Reports to Front End Manager, Shift Coordinator/Manager on Duty

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet customers, smiling and making eye contact.
  • Become familiar with TPSS Co-op policies and products in order to answer customer questions. Refer unresolved questions or problems to the appropriate staff.
  • Check out customer purchases quickly and accurately, using correct prices and departments.
  • Call for back-up as needed so that customers wait as little as possible to be checked out.
  • Bag customer purchases as needed and ask customers if they need assistance. For those needing assistance, carry out groceries or call other staff if available.
  • Open and close out registers following established procedures. Count cash drawer at start & end of shift.
  • Put stuffers in bags, inform customers of specials and upcoming store events.
  • Maintain front end in clean, orderly condition.
  • Answer and route phone calls, take and route messages as needed.
  • Record shrink promptly and accurately.
  • Alert Shift Coordinator to potential shoplifters, disorderly customers or other emergencies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Available to work mornings/evenings and weekends
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 lbs
  • Experience serving the public.

PURPOSE: To provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service and maintain the store in clean, fully-stocked, orderly condition.

STATUS: Reports to the Department Manager or Manager on Duty

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist customers with product questions, in prompt, friendly, courteous manner, referring them to other staff when necessary.
  • Offer suggestions for purchases and ways to prepare products.
  • Help customers place special orders.
  • Stock displays fully without overcrowding; face items on shelves.
  • Rotate older stock to front, making space for new stock.
  • Pull short-date or low-quality items and follow established procedures for recording and disposing.
  • Label items accurately with price tags or signs. Report price discrepancies to buyers by using the ‘scan report’.
  • Maintain stocking lists for later shifts. Notify buyers of out-of-stocks.
  • Help with receiving deliveries and rotate overstock into back stock.
  • Stock produce and close it for the night as needed.
  • Clean up spills, remove trash promptly, sweep and mop floor.
  • Use equipment safely.
  • Participate in periodic inventory counts as needed.
  • Attend all-staff and department meetings.
  • Consistently report to work on time, starting tasks at the beginning of scheduled shift.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Available to work mornings/evenings and weekends

PURPOSE: To provide prompt, friendly, helpful customer service and maintain the store in clean, fully-stocked, orderly condition.

STATUS: Reports to the Produce Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide excellent service by greeting and offering assistance to customers in a prompt and friendly manner.
  • Study and gain knowledge about products in the department.
  • Provide information to customers regarding preparation of products and related foods; locate a knowledgeable person to provide information when necessary.
  • Trim and wash produce before display.
  • Properly rotate and cull produce.
  • Double check signage to determine that newly arrived produce is located in the appropriate places.
  • Clean produce aisle of debris and spills and wipe produce cases clean.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Available to work mornings/nights and weekends.
  • Able to perform stocking tasks including heavy lifting.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to project an outgoing, friendly personality.
  • Regular, predictable attendance.
